One of the most ancient ways of building wooden houses is cutting and fitting wall logs with hand tools - an ax and an adze. Wild felling (Russian name) or handcrafted logs - these are tree trunks peeled from bark. With an ax and a planer.
Each cut trunk is subject to careful manual processing - planing, chiselling, and grinding without the use of industrial equipment: grooves are cut out, elements of locking connections with other structural elements of the structure - with a hand tool.
Wooden walls are installed on a pre-prepared foundation, which provides sufficient bearing capacity. The walls of the building are mounted layer by layer, horizontally laid logs, each new row is called a crown.
Interventional insulation is placed between the logs (we use only natural materials - linen, jute, etc.).
Features that all log cabins of houses have
Typically, the range of diameters of logs used in manual cutting for walls is from 24 to 50 cm. The joints between adjacent crowns of logs are made in a groove, the shape of the groove is a semicircle with a crescent width from 12 cm to 25 cm, depending on the diameter of the logs .
«The real thickness of the wall of a wild log house is the length of the lunar groove and not the diameter of the log!»
Log houses are built using freshly cut coniferous wood, preferably winter cut (cutting). Logs are dried directly in the log house.
To ensure that surface cracks do not occur in the logs (or are significantly smaller) in the process of reducing the internal moisture content of the logs, our company's specialists recommend making compensation cuts along the entire length (having a depth of several centimeters).
Manufacture and installation of the structure of a log house is carried out at the factory or on site by carpentry teams, depending on the working conditions at the facility.
Today, there are several ways of cutting corner joints: "Russian cup," in the paw "," Canadian cup "," Norwegian lock ". Our company uses the "Canadian cup" in this technology, that is, wedge-shaped, as we we consider this the most effective cup, which allows us to wedge in and close the cracks formed when the house shrinks.
"Russian bowl - most often used for logs"
"Canadian bowl - best suited for handcrafted felling"
The choice of the type of bowl cutting depends on the expediency of their use in a certain price segment! | |

Advantages «Russian bowl» | Advantages «Canadian bowl» |
The most common and accessible type of felling is the "Russian bowl". The Russian felling is different in that the frame consists of rounded hewn logs with a semicircular crown groove, which allows the logs to fit snugly together in the wall. The corners are laid by cutting into the felling (with the rest of the log that goes beyond the perimeter of the log house by 20 - 40 cm). A log house made using this technology is the most stable. But the "Russian bowl" has a well-known drawback: not too tight fit of the stacked logs - semicircles of bowls, which, after drying, become oval, which contributes to the formation of cracks. Therefore, experts recommend re-caulking or sealing the chopped walls after a year after the assembly of the log house. |
The main advantage of the "Canadian Log" ("Canadian Bowl") technology is a unique self-locking lock - a snug fit of logs to each other, which form an exceptionally warm and durable corner joint. During the drying process, cracks do not form in the logs that require further caulking or sealing with special sealants. Construction of a wooden house from a wild log house using the "Canadian cup" technology is a more time-consuming and expensive process. But, as it often happens: "buying a thing once more expensive, a person saves in the end." |
The log house of the house, preferably, should stand for at least a year before the start of interior and exterior finishing work, the installation of windows and doors. After the completion of the shrinkage processes, additional work is carried out to seal the cracks and seams - caulking log cabins.
You can get acquainted with the technology in the section «Maintenance of wooden houses” (in subsection 6. Caulking, grinding). But there are also accelerated methods for building hand crafted wooden houses from hewn wood, namely, the method of arranging casing - a floating system for window and door openings, you can familiarize yourself with the technology in the section “Service maintenance of wooden houses” (in subsection 2. Arrangement of casing floating systems).
Hand crafted Log homes (Wild felling) - properties and features of technology
|
Manual processing of logs is a very painstaking task, but the result is worth it, because houses from a wild log house (hand-made wood) are the most durable.
This technology involves exclusively manual labor at each stage of construction, thereby avoiding unnecessary removal of the thickness of a valuable material that serves as both a constructive and a heater. All logs are delivered to the construction site, where craftsmen manually trim them from the bark, hollow out a longitudinal landing groove, as well as corner joints (cuts). When building a log house, you cannot do without certain lifting mechanisms, due to the considerable weight of massive logs. The construction of this type of wooden house takes more time than the construction of other types of wooden houses, since manual assembly requires a careful approach.

Also, it is here that carved wooden decorations are most often used. Carved wind boards and chapels, poles, wooden panels, three-dimensional figures of domestic and wild animals and various characters can decorate a wild log house.
They can be both independent objects and structural elements of the house (pillars, railing bases, etc.).
Handcrafted log homes do not lose their relevance in our time. Having undeniable advantages and a distinctive, original appearance - a wild log house will be a cozy nest for its owners.
After assembling the wooden structure, the structure is allowed to stand for more than a year, for the natural shrinkage of the tree. Then proceed to all other work. In such a house, the optimum temperature will always be maintained, in which it is warm in winter, and in summer, such a house will give the desired coolness to its inhabitants.

Handcrafted log homes - price per m2
The price of a wild log house largely depends on the volume of the tree and the time spent by the craftsmen on laying it. It is 100% handmade and it is individual in each case. Only by gathering together the initial data on the real geology of the site, the material consumption of the preliminary design, taking into account the remoteness of construction from production, and much more, it is possible to announce the most accurate price of a wild log house in several configurations that are convenient for the client. The price of m2 has only indicative values - it is from 6000 UAH / m2 for the base wooden part and from 13000 UAH / m2 for a turnkey kit. Wooden log cabins (rounded log house)
Houses made of round logs are known for their popularity and low price among the inhabitants of Ukraine, Russia and Europe.
In Ukraine, the main building material, when building a house from a log house, is smereka (Carpathian spruce) or pine. Smereka houses have low thermal conductivity, they are very warm, and in hot summer they will keep cool.
When building a house from a log house, logs with a diameter of 220 mm -240 mm are used.
Cups (corner joints) are slaughtered directly at the facility at the time of assembly, since the logs have natural moisture and if they are slaughtered at the factory, then at the time of delivery of the logs to the assembly site, they can be deformed, which will not allow more, high-quality assembly.
The crowns are fastened together with oak dowels, and at the corner joints they are attached to the foundation with anchor spokes. Between the logs, our specialists lay interventional insulation - natural linen.
The use of modern technologies, as well as the experience of our company's employees, allows you to move into the house immediately after assembly and not wait for it to shrink. The company Modern wooden houses, carries out the whole range of work, from design, site planning, to the capital construction of a house and landscape design.
