Glued laminated timber wooden houses

To maximize the benefits of this technology, glued laminated timber requires high-quality wood and adhesives, as well as modern equipment and strict adherence to all necessary technical specifications and requirements. The longevity of a glued laminated timber house depends not only on the quality of the timber itself but also on the many nuances of the assembly process. Our company guarantees comprehensive oversight at all stages, from the beginning of production to the completion of construction, and offers a five-year warranty on our work!

Is glued laminated timber a durable building material?

Yes, the goal of this technology is to eliminate the defects and flaws inherent in natural wood, such as cracks, shrinkage, knot loss, resin pockets, etc. Adherence to the technical process allows us to reduce the likelihood of defects, reduce the destructive effects of the environment, and significantly increase the service life of the wooden structure of the house. Here's how this is achieved.:

1. Sawing and cutting logs

The log is sawn into blanks from which parts of the required size are later obtained to obtain timber of the required cross-section.

2. Removal of natural defects

The resulting parts are sorted, removing areas with dead knots, resin pockets, affected by mold, fungus and other types of defects.

3. Drying wood

Drying of the blanks to 10-12% in a drying chamber takes 7-14 days. Drying should not be too intense, as this can damage the wood.

4. Basic planing

A 4-sided base planing process produces lamellas from blanks. The lamella size determines the future cross-section of the timber, allowing for final planing and profiling.

5. Removing drying defects

Even with gradual moisture loss, it is not always possible to avoid the appearance of cracks in the array; defects of microcracks are detected and removed before splicing.

6. Longitudinal Splicing

The tenoning machine cuts a zigzag profile into the end of the lamella, allowing shorter lamellas to be spliced to the desired length. The press length is the maximum for the timber.

7. Planing and Calibration

When the board reaches the desired length, it is cut to the exact size, final calibrated, and sent for gluing, positioning the pieces so that the joints do not overlap.

8. Gluing under a press

After applying the glue, the lamellas are placed in a press and pressed. Depending on the thickness of the timber, the number of lamellas ranges from 3 to 7, and the maximum length of the timber can reach 24 m.

9. Cutting the Profile

The resulting blank is placed through a four-sided milling machine, where the sides are machined with a straight cutter, and the lower and upper cutters cut out the seats for the adjacent crowns.

10. Cutting the bowls for the project

To produce a ready-to-assemble house kit, a special program converts the preliminary design into a set of finished parts, whose drawings are loaded into industrial equipment. This equipment produces all the parts of the house kit and assigns them an assembly number, which determines their position in the assembly drawing on the construction site.

6 Advantages of Glued Laminated Timber Houses

высокая степень энергосбережения

Energy Saving

Houses from glue laminated timber have very low thermal conductivity. That parameter of a 200 mm thick laminated timber wall is twice as good as that of a log house (the width of a 20 cm log's crescent-shaped groove is only 9 cm), 5 times lower than that of a brick house (equivalent to an 800-1000 mm wall), and 13 times lower than that of a reinforced concrete house! This a significant savings (up to 40%) on heating costs in winter.

Absence of cracks

A significant advantage of glued laminated timber is that the wooden lamellas are dried to a moisture content of 10-12% before gluing. After drying, the blanks are sorted, and any defects or imperfections are removed. This process prevents timber deformation and cracking (such as in solid timber or rounded logs), and also ensures high resistance to fungal attack and rot, as well as high strength of the glued timber.

Минимальная усадка клееного бруса

Minimal Shrinkage

The minimum shrinkage of glued laminated timber houses is only 0.2 to 1% of the house's height. Therefore, construction of a glued laminated timber house is carried out without interruption, and occupancy is possible immediately after completion.

автоматизированное производство клееного бруса

Automated production

High-tech equipment automatically selects the drying mode, monitors for defects and identifies faults, converts the draft design into a set of finished parts, numbers the timber in the house kit, and generates its drawings. This simplifies house assembly, reduces manual labor, and improves quality!

CONSTRUCTION OF A HOUSE FROM GLUED LAMINATED TIMBER

Glued laminated timber houses are wooden houses with all their advantages but without their disadvantages, such as cracks, resin pockets, shrinkage, cold corners, etc. Traditionally, they are often called Finnish houses (the country of origin of the technology), for their high quality, durability, excellent appearance and wide design possibilities!

I) glued laminated timber is an environmentally friendly natural material; II) high strength, reliability, and resistance to wear, rot, insect damage, and fungi are all qualities of glued laminated timber; III) increased fire resistance is another characteristic; IV) good thermoregulation and thermal insulation properties; V) low load on the foundation.

We accommodate those who want to minimize construction costs and keep prices under control, but we value our long-standing reputation and maintain our high standards! Therefore, the construction price is fixed by a contractual agreement between us and the client before construction begins and is not subject to change without the client's consent or additional requests.

When is a basic laminated timber house package better, and when is turnkey construction better?

Glued laminated timber house components

Modern Wooden Houses caters to clients who prefer a phased construction process. Today, we offer a basic laminated timber house package, a service that requires minimal labor and includes a prefabricated house kit. This allows clients to simultaneously gain complete control over the construction process and flexible options for customizing their home!

Advantages and features of phased construction

For example, before the production of a home kit, the client can hire a specialized team to pour the foundation, while our company will only undertake the installation of the wooden part and the installation of utilities. After the wooden part is assembled, the customer can choose between our offer for roofing, finishing, electrical work, windows, or use the services of other companies. However, if some work is performed by another company or team, there is a risk of the following situations: a) It is important to understand that our 5-year home maintenance warranty will not apply to work that was performed by another company or team; b) If the client decides to continue working with us after some time, all teams may be busy and the client will have to wait until someone is available to continue the work.

Advantages of turnkey construction

Modern Wooden Houses handles the entire process, from manufacturing to construction of a laminated timber house. Experienced specialists ensure quality control, eliminating any deviations from the technological process or risks of poor workmanship. We offer a 5-year warranty on our turnkey project. Building laminated timber houses is one of our core competencies. We have built over 600 timber houses. Our completed projects include restaurants, townhouses, hotel complexes, glamping sites, bathhouse complexes, VIP cottages, and, of course, residential buildings, bathhouses, and gazebos. Glued laminated timber houses are our expertise, and clients who choose our company can rest assured that the home we build will be high-quality and durable, and we'll always be happy to assist with ongoing maintenance.
